Some times, Loricatus will deem you his "Valiant Knight". Usually you get a message saying that "Your hands feel tingly for a moment.", or something along the lines of it. I'm not too sure what this does, but I think it increases your skill with the current weapon by X amount of experience.
If he is angry with you, then he will turn your weapon into banana flesh.
