Being a retard
So, I started a new character whose been wildly successful thus far. FOr the first time ever for me I've slain the army of wolves and the werewolf on the second level of the mountain or whatever dungeon this is. However, my character is a retard.

9 intellect cripples my ability to upgrade my equipment through scrolls of material hardening. Science talking has never - EVER raised an attribute of mine, and reading books and scrolls has failed to do so as well. So here's my question:

If simply stepping into a web shows gains to my dexterity and agility by highlighting that attribute in yellow - why does my intelligence score not show yellow when I talk to banana growers? Reading books fails to highlight my intelligence or wisdom as well. Further, can I gain int from reading the same book over and over?

Can I become a smart man, or must I invest in an ommel studded drool-cup?

Ommels are useful indeed. I've already found sci-talking a waste of time, though I know there are many who disagree with me. Talking to the growlers gives hardly any results even when done for a long time... Reading books and scrolls is a bit more effective, and I always read every book I find. And some characters just seem to raise stats faster than others.

I called my local police department and spoke with an Officer McGullin. I went over your post in detail with him but he seemed extremely agitated by the conversation. It proved an akward moment, and we hung up thinking less of each other.

Anyone else?

I don't understand your 2nd post there at all.... but anyway

Well you're kind of out of luck with science talking since you only started with 9. You do understand that you have to talk to them repeatedly, not just once right? Same with books, read them over and over until they disappear, not just once. And don't sell them / drop them, and don't be too concerned about your alignment for the time being.

See here:
http://www.attnam.com/wiki/index.php?title=Science_Talking
Most require at least 10 intelligence in order to science talk. Banana growers are useless, since they constantly move, it's hard to talk to them, and don't give you much of a raise anyway. Scrolls won't help you right now either.

I would suggest buying every single book from the library and reading them until they disappear. You're bound to get at least 1 raise. Now that you're at 10 int, you can harden materials I believe. Reading powerful scrolls like harden/change material and create golem are more likely to raise your int than weaker ones. Also you can go talk to the 1-legged village elder, and he will give you another.

It might seem like science talking takes some time but I always use it, and it really does help. Once you get to around 20, you can talk to the librarian and mystic light frogs in Attnam. Also, whenever you kill a giant / mystic dark frog, resurrect it and talk to it, and it's guaranteed to give you 1-2 int points.

Stats only show in yellow when they have raised at least one point (and red when they drop one).
However, when stepping trough a web, your D & A will fall due to you being stuck. When you get out again, those stats are restored to their former state, and show yellow because they have raised more than one point during the last action, not because they are exercised.

Beware! 'tis EagleV, Hardcore Weaver of Baskets!

=D I don't think the police officers make good sci talkers.

That's right. You need Intelligence of 10 before sci-talk will be of any use. It's books and scrolls for now.

I've gotten a retard similar to yours up to 21 int just from reading books and scrolls, so don't worry

Just stand in the eastern corner of the map, in their path, and you will block their exit, so that 3 banana growers surround you and can't move
