I need help on weapon choices.

image

Normally this is not a difficult decision, but extreme luck has made for different circumstances. The way I see it, I have 4 good choices for weapon progression:

1. Vermis + Saal'thul. Already have Sal, and plenty of skill for Verm.

2. Vermis + whip of thievery. Already have thief whip and skill in using it, as well as skill for Verm.

3. Saal'thul + whip. Already have both of these, and any slack on Sal's part will be taken up by the whip.

4. The enchanted two-hander. It is *accurate*, it will train AStr handily and it will kick ass once I have skill with it. Plus, I have a spare enchant weapon scroll thanks to the bones that gave it to me.

Any advice would be awesome.

I would say Saal'thul and the whip. Invisibility, and theft with two weapons. Can't really beat that.

Personally I'd switch around as needed and gain skill with all of 'em, as you never know what else you might find. Use the two-hander on plants and gibberlings and such, the whip and spear when going down stairs and Saal'thul and whip for tougher enemies.

Vermis and whip. No choice.

The two hander just can't keep up with faster enemies later on, and invisibility can be obtained from multiple other sources. The teleportation abilities of Vermis and the speed of the whip (especially when changed to another material and enchanted) will decimate everything.

I make sure I train polearms for when i find Vermis, and Large swords for when I kill petrus, whips are good to train too especially for once you kill Sherarax, last time I got Whip of Thievery +10 and Chameleon whip +12. I also like to train shields, I know you hate them UE but if you have and unbelievably accurate arcanite shield and shield skill over 80 it save you getting one shotted by the named baddies. I always melee all the named badies now, and never use artificial limbs. Wand of slow, wand of haste, bear traps, wand of teleport, vermis, good shield, highly enchanted boots of Agi, and a bunch of healing potions and even Sherarax is not so bad. I used to always blow them up but then you blow up their treasures too. Also if you have an Archangel then killing Ur Khan, Golgor Dhan and Sherry are easy.

Shields are great. Just don't use heavy ones. One of the few cases when wood is better than iron.

I'll have to give shields a try sometime. I've honestly never actually tried using one in a serious run.

I found an Ommel Bone Hammer and an Ommel Tooth Sheild in my latest game, I'm quite happy about that.

Agh, reminds me of the time when I decided to use an all-bone arsenal of weapons. Even in WM, I decided to quit after all my precious weapons fell to dust.

Actually I will go against everyone and say Saal'thul + whip. Vermis annoys me with all the random teleporting. Not so much of me since I can control it, but when you're fighting a powerful enemy and want to finish him off but then have to go looking for him again since Vermis teleported him, and by that time he's healed enough...

When you have over 100 Int and ESP its not such a big deal. Even when you are weaker it is beneficial because it gives you a chance to take a helaing potion without wasting a teleport zap. But yeah, I know what you mean, sometimes it can be annoying. If I have an enemy to the point where I want to finish them off, I will often just switch weapons; thats why its good to train more than one weapon skill.

Um...*points to his first post*

Technically, you sided with me. Unless I don't count as a person anymore?

Hey guys, I also have a dilemma

Currently I have : Vermis +4 and flaming meteoric steel sword +3. It gives me satisfactory damage & accuracy.

But I just found a whip of thievery -> I wanted one from the beginning, but now it's late game (cleared everything down to GC8 )...

I thought that the whip would be good to beat up the named baddies (they have weps to steal, if it's possible), does it pay to switch the sword to the whip, now, when there are hardly any monsters before Elpuri?

Well I assume that a bolt has a given, numeric, amouunt of perwer. (assi in enegri)... unless it's LAERSER SKISKLS POEWN PEWN!

It may be a good idea to find some scrolls of change material, and some weapon scrolls to get it beefed up.

To be highly effective, you should be a champion of Cleptia and your whip will steal more often. If this is possible go for the switch, harden the whip to phoenix feather if you have 20 int and it will be much deadlier.

I would just stick with the sword. You're far down enough that hitting things with a new weapon type will be really hard.

I'm with U_E on this one. Just keep the whip to throw at enemies. There's a bug, I believe, where a thrown whip of thievery will land a stolen weapon at your feet. If that happens to a named enemy, the odds are greatly tipped in your favour

Thanks guys, I'll stick to the sword. But improve the material first. What's the best choice for someone having 20 Int?

Nothing. If you have any hardens you might use those, but hold on to a CM scroll if you have it. If you get up to 25 (IIRC) you can CM to mithril, then immediately harden to arcanite.

Perhaps I can get to 25 INT by scitalk? It's barely day 8, after all so I have some time.
