| On IVAN, I had gotten very close to fighting Elpuri. Having struggled so hard to get this far, I was being rediculously careful... Too careful. I stumbled across Vladimir The Giant Carnivorous Mutant Bunny, and foolishly, hit him with a Wand of Striking. It didn't end well. I suppose this teaches me to look at the enemies closely, instead of being Zap-Happy. |

| Hmm, there are so many. I think the worst ones would have to be when I get to GC9, thinking I'm ready to take on Elpuri, but when I get there the mystic dark frog teleports away my body armor / weapon / ESP ability. So with the first two I'm pretty much helplessly torn to shreds, and with the last one the mystic dark frog usually electrocutes me to death (at least in the past, when I didn't used to get a cloak of elec. res.) while I blindly flail about hoping to get a lucky hit and kill it. I know, I should eat floating eye flesh or something to make it more permanent, but unless there's one on GC8 I can't be bothered to go looking for one. Or, the other bad ones are where you think you're good enough for GC9 but you really aren't, even with all of your equipment. |

| I've tried repeatedly to take on on the mages and necromancers in the octiron room beyond the portal - it's never gone well. Half the time I don't even get the damn door open before I am killed by repeated explosions and zaps. Has anyone ever cleared it or do you just teleport to the stairs and move on? | |
capristo |
Dec 5, 2007, 4:22 pm |
| I've only been there twice. The first time I was pretty much instantly destroyed, the second time I started fighting my way through and then I thought better of it and just teleported to the stairway. The middle level is the hardest (the one where they're all stuffed into one tiny room). The third level is actually pretty easy, and it's safe to take your time and clear it out, as is Oree's Lair. |

| I've got a bunch. One was where I was drinking out of a fountain and a dark frog popped out and befriended me. Later on in UT2 or 3, the Dark Frog was fighting something off screen and I ran in to help. The attacker took my leg off, and I was dissolved in Dark Frog blood. Another one was where I was completely raped by a pack of blink dogs in UT2. And of course, my favorite, I was attacked by an entire company of Kamikaze Dwarves. In UT3. I wish I was joking. |

Then, I somehow got killed by nutshot from a kobold with a balsa spear. That's sad, to be able to kill hedgehogs and zombies with ease, only to get my balls torn to shreds by a spear made of a weak wood.

Probably either one of my zero-point 'in soviet russia kenny kills YOU' games, the game where a lucky as shit hedgehog beheaded me in UT1, or my most recent game where even having a cloak and a ring with fire resistance, as well as having arcanite plate mail on UT2, were not enough to save me from the ravages of a big mine + a nearby normal one. At least in the last case I have a chance of benefiting from the experience.. T_T BTW, if you're curious how I got arcanite plate mail on UT2, it was a gift from Atavus... I really liked the way that game was going. *sniffle* |

| Well, you see, the part that makes me feel really stupid is that I had a ring of searching, and that not too long before splatting I'd said to myself to be careful not to think I'd found all the mines in the minefield even after I'd seen and grabbed everything in it. Then I actually finish, sigh in relief, take a few steps and... "You hear a faint thump." It was almost like a scene straight from a sitcom or Saturday morning cartoon. Also, thanks for the enchanted cloaks tip, though I found it in another topic not too long after finding this site. ;_; |

| This one is so retarded. I was running around GC2, and was doing awesome. I was doing a run through a room for purposes of finding useful items. Suddenly, the game stops. It says "You hear a faint click underfoot. You look down to see that you stepped on a HUEG MIEN! LOLZ! SUX2BU!" I basically went "Ah, fuck!" and I hit the spacebar to continue, hoping I could teleport away. No such luck. The mine exploded and completely raped me. Destroyed most of my items, and broke my wand of mirroring. Suddenly, I'm surrounded by doors. I'm still alive! Then my character just drops dead. How'd he die? Burned to death by a lit scroll. |

| I've got two. First was when I played IVANT and found Dagron as a random spawn (bug ^^) I had 3 life savings, so I was pretty comfident. By dual wielding Saal'Thul and Vermis I hitted him couple of times and then my Vermis teleports him away. Nice tactic I felt. Well, after 5-6 teleports I used stetoschope on him to see how much HP did he have. 68/2000! OMG! I quickly switched off my Vermis, so i wouldn't teleport him away. Got one hit on him and... Blam! Beheaded. Funny thing was that i had AoLS on, and 2 on inventory, but it didn't activate because i ended having no neck! *sigh* Second one was so horrible that i almost deleted IVAN from my comp. I was damn lucky, and had these safely in my chest: 1 Scroll of Enchant Weapon 10 Scrolls of Enchant Armor 3 Scrolls of Harden Material 5 Scrolls of Charging 5 Scrolls of Taming 2 Scrolls of Repair 3 Wands of Mirroring 2 Wands of Cloning I also had couple of strikings, lightnings, many healing liguids etc. Then I wen't to GC5. I couldn't find stairs anywhere, and had hard time staying alive. Whoops, enner in front of me. Aaah crap all my wands are in box *looks for them* When I got them, enner was standing in front of me. The first time I ever killed Enner Beast (and by "I" I mean those lovely ladies sent to me by Nefas) on LIVAN, I got a lethal crash, repeated everytime I reloaded the autosave (autosaving every turn seems to do more harm than good). I consider this a fate worse than death ![]() Another day as I was pillaging the kobold town in IVANT with my trusted slave (armed to the teeth), I accidently kicked him as he stepped over a chest. Somehow, I have assumed that the slave would have a "masochist" property and not fight back. Guess what, he did. Needless to say the Jackel made quick work of my groin with one bite I was dead and gawped at my screen in shock at my unlucky turn of events, I then looked at my missing body parts and laughed realising I would of been screwed anyhow and proceeded to make a new character, hoping this time, just maybe, I would make it past UT3, I got outside the starting area with my trusty lantern and my pet Dog Geoff and was devoured by a Zombie... | Not my most horrible for sure, but a recent bad one: I attempted UT3 and retreated to UT2 after Genetrix nearly killed me. Then I spent a shitload of time polypiling and enchanting and hardening my gear, and finally returned to UT3. I had two chameleon whips, and so far neither one had polymorphed anything it hit. Back on UT3, I hit a kobold which promptly polymorphed into an iron golem. Pretty shitty, but also pretty easy to outrun, so I started retreating. Then suddenly a carnivorous plant popped out, blocking my way. The iron golem was still a few steps behind so I had time to kill the plant and continue on my way... or so I thought. The whips decided to activate again, and turned the plant into a phoenix feather golem. Stuck between two golems I decided to just drink my sulphuric acid rather than get beaten to a pulp |

| I hope I didn't get you angry with my questions. Thanks for your patient answeres and I try to read all the topics when I have more time. Okay, I accidently deleted Ivan and highscores before and I'm sure I had some better deaths, but here is some I have had recently: I had cloak of invisibility when I stepped into GC 6. Level was full of nasty golems and other hard enemies so I decided to get into GC 7 as soon as possible. Suddenly I saw veteran kamikaze dwarf of mellis, but of course it couldn't see me. Then suddenly electric burst ripped the cloak in pieces and I was visible again. Dwarf was still two steps away from me, so I tried to zap it with wand of striking which I had used to kill Enner. Of course it didnt work anymore. One step and I would be dead but I had wand of teleport which I had also used couple of times. I could have applied it, but no I had to zap dwarf and yeah nothing happened... My most horrible death in drawen minefield was when I went there with two mistresses. I had clone too, but I left it in level before. I thought he can survive since he is the "original". Anyway first mistress hit the mine pretty close the exit and died. Me and the another mistress continued deeper. My ring of searching found mine, but I didn't step away from it, I decided to go past it. Of course damn mistress stepped on mine. Suprisingly I was still alive after explosion, but my HP was low. I remembered seeing bottle of healing liquid before and went back. I thought I was lucky when I got next to healing liquid bottle without encountering more mines/enemies. I stepped in same square with bottle so that I could have drinked it, but of course there had to be one more mine... One of my many polymorphing deaths was when I polymorphed rocks into better stuff. Wand didn't zap anymore, so I decided to break it. First I used wand of fireballs with walls to get more stuff to polymorph. I stepped middle of rocks and breaked the wand of polymorphing. I polymorphed into a large spider and was so suprised that I accidently stepped one step right. Broken bottle of poison wouldn't have caused any problem to me in my normal form, but to spider it was deadly. |

It became my doom. Once carelessly stepping down the stairs, (I hadn't taken off my body armor --> +200hp.) and spawned Danny. Freaked out, and ran upstairs, he followed. Zap! Teleported myself away, and had an idea. Since I had about 30 int, wand of polymorph and ring of polycontrol, I polymorphed myself in Danny. After all, my gear was better. But dumbass me didn't remember that once you poly, you don't have any of the past weapon skills! So, he totally ripped me apart. |

Boy was I surprised when it morphed into some sort of bad ass female warrior and cut off my right arm and leg. After a little bit it changed back to it's true form and flew away. By this point I was ridiculously injured and exhausted and starving. As I was trying to make my way back to the surface I got stuck in a spider web and starved to death. Oh boy! | I had apretty funny early game death yesterday. I had a good character who trained Agi and Int/wis easily - he had a +1 Agi, +2 wis, and +1 int (and +2 Cha) just by sci talkig with the banana growers for the first 800 turns. this is the kind of char that get 50 Int/wis with ease. I went into UT after telling my puppy to "Stay!", and there was a fountain by the stairs. So I asked myself" Do you feel lucky? Well do ya, huh, punk?" and the answer was yes. I got a few stats boosts and then I got "an uncomfortable uncertainty" aboutwho i really was. So I kept drinking. Next a dark frog spawned and I thought "oh shit, no armour, no weapons, I'm fucked" but I actually beat him fairly easily. So I kept drinking. Fool. Then a conical green momo slime spawned and vomited acid all over me. I knew I was toast but I started wailing on the slime with my bare fists as the flesh melted from my bones. my arms and legs melted off and just when i thought i was doomed I morphed into a black unicorn. After a few swift kicks the slime exploded and I climbed the stairs and headed for the healer. Partway there i changed back to a legless one armed (grey-striped) human and rolled into the healers. 40 gp got me a couple of new legs but i only made it 4 more steps before my head dissolved.

I found leather armour, a steel sword, a scroll of something and a wand of mirroring right off the bat. 10 turns later, me and Kenny got tag-teamed by a hedgehog and a pair of kobolds with an iron mace and an iron dagger. | Had a character get warped to GC 4 through a pool form GC 1. On my way back up, I went up the stairs that should've brought me to GC 2, but instead I found myself standing in the octiron room on the golden portal that leads to Oree's lair. After staring flabbergasted at the screen for several seconds, I went through the portal and was disemboweled by mistress warladies with +6 whips before I got a turn. | Just had one not so nice death. I was in GC2 or 3, fighting wolves. I managed to kill several of them, but then I panicked. I had managed to run from most of the wolves and dark frogs, and when necessary, I used a wand of teleportation. Then I was cornered to a room with dark frogs, and unable to attack anything. I got an idea of breaking the wand of teleportation. I thought I was safe, teleported in a big room. I walked around in the room for quite a while, all ok; until I saw the sign telling me I was in an experimental dwarven mine field. On that moment, I knew I was dead. I tried to find the door, and as I was walking by the walls, I stepped on a big mine. Damn land mines.

| Thanks. Again, an awful death. I was doing great, had a genie serving me, had a good weapon. I was on GC2. I found another even better weapon, a mace named Turox. I had never seen it before, and equipped it. The first enemy after that I encountered was a spider. I bashed it, and Turox decided to show its power to me. (spoilers) It exploded like a wand of fireballs. Not just that damaging me, it broke my wand of polymorph, turning me, from all possible monsters, into a GIANT MUSHROOM. What then? | Mushroom Slime! A healthy alternative to other less efficient weight loss products! I'll repeat the death I just had here, because it was my best character so far, and because it was somewhat extreme. I already have it in my sig. I ate a grey unicorn corpse in GC2, got teleportitis, blinked into a minefield, and set everything off, igniting my gunpowder backpack and breaking my wand of fireballs. Luckily, I was wearing two rings of fire protection, so despite my demise I was relatively unhurt. I lost no limbs. That was the end of Tripwire. It seems I named him well. [UPDATE!] I just had a newbie die in a much more suitable way to be mentioned in this thread. For the first time I got the holy banana. Shortly afterwards, one of my legs got ripped off by a bear trap. I picked it up and began on my trip back to town when I encountered a skeleton, which hit me for vital damage in the head. I panicked and began to run, but it promptly ended that by hacking my other leg off. I was overloaded, and knew that it would probably kill me during the turn that I dropped my stuff, and even if not, I'd never get away from it without dying. So I pulled out my banana. No, the other one. I decided that since trying to escape would certainly get me killed, I'd go out with a bang, and if I was incredibly lucky, I might even survive! BANG! The skeleton died almost immediately, blown into pieces. Then my head was completely destroyed, ending all hopes of continuing this character. Both my arms bled out as well. But that wasn't the end! Oh no! Then the explosion damaged the very banana I'd just fired. It ruptured, releasing the rest of its charges on me. It ripped both arms off at once, as if to finish the job in an explosion of sadistic irony. Thus ended the life of Ripcord, yet another appropriately named character. |

| I suppose that if you return to normal when you're a headless zombie, you die, correct? If by some fluke not, then you could return to normal, then have your head replaced. You really ought to maintain those things when you return to normal, simply because it's more interesting. Also, I know that zombies can pick their own head back up and put it on. Is this limited to their own head, or can it be any head? It would be rather cool to go around with a tiger's head. If you could retain it when you returned to normal, it would be even cooler. |

Jun 29, 2008, 6:35 am |
| No. As you know, zombies are spawned with random limbs and/or head. The same thing happens when you polymorph into a zombie. You may or may not have all your limbs or head. So it makes no difference if you have a head or not as a zombie, when you change back you'll be back the way you were before you polymorphed. As for zombies reattaching limbs/heads, they can do that with any limbs/heads. I once filled the library with zombies, and when I came back one had the head of the librarian ![]() |

| I was happily levitating around the dwarven minefield, when the levitation suddenly ran out. Luckily I didn't land on a mine, so I spent a few turns pressing s incase any mines were around, which it seemed there weren't, so I took one step towards the side of the room and... BOOM!! blown into little bits... but all was not lost! My wand of resurrection broke shortly after I died and resurrected me! So I made my way around the now empty mine field, when kenny the large rat (yes i polymorphed him) ran over to one of my blown-off arms and started eating it. After he was done and I was just about to get to the door, he ran over to me and stepped on a mine that had miraculously not been set off by the chain reaction earlier, and blew both me and him sky-high. I had a lovely character, who became a champion of Valpurus still in the UT, and ran around with a valpurium shield, helmet of brilliance, mithril warhammer +5, and the lawful gods were at his side. Oh, and I had two pet werewolves "I'll kick Elpuri's ass", I thought in my pride. Then, as I got past enner (no problem), I decided to stay in the big room level for a bit too long, fighting baddies. So a kamikaze dwarf kills me, and causes an explosion of a wand of polymorph (why did I keep it after polymorphing that damn chest at all?), turning me into a carnivorous mutant bunny. Oops. Well, since I still had my 44 HP and a helluva agility, I decided to run around avoiding enemies. I even decided to run up one level, but ended up surrounded by monsters, so I just went down, killed that blink dog, and kept on running. Then I got exhausted, then I got fainting, then I got killed. So it goes. |

There was some invisible critter hitting me pretty hard, which I lured back up the stairs and control teleported around to heal up and then came back and hit it until it died. Turns out it was the spider silk golem (I checked out the wiki), which was nice, I picked up the armour and the scroll and wands(hint hint), and went back down the stairs. I cleared most of the level out, and I had started to pick up some loot, when I ran into this squat, cranky looking creature. Too late, I realised that this was a kamikaze dwarf (veteran, judging by the size of the bang). All my limbs were blown off, and I think I died to the blast, but luckily I was wearing an amulet of lifesaving, which did its job. Unluckily, I also had a bag full of wands that chain exploded, blowing all my limbs off again, and killing me again (?? - I think so anyway). HOWEVER, I wasn\'t done yet, as I must have had a wand of resurrection or something; whatever happened, when all was said and done there I was, a mistress torture chief, with a clone, and the message \"something is calling you back from the afterlife\" (I\'m not sure if I got that exactly right or not). I got off the level quickly, and just as well, as when I reverted to human I was limbless and down to near dead in all my vital organs. Loricatus was kind enough to donate a bronze leg which allowed me to hobble back to New Attnam (all the other gods were angry with me for some reason - I lost an arm to Sophos just after I\'d grown it with my last full healing potion - Mellis wasn\'t giving me anything either) and get my limbs back, and I\'d cloned enough scrolls of change material to convert them all into phoenix feather again. So, back into the gloomy cave I went, careful of all things with beards, and got down to level 7. Here I found a giant dark frog, one of which I\'d killed before, so without a thought I went up and hit it. It wasn\'t pleased, and bit my head so hard that I was knocked out, then proceeded to bash me to death. This was a bit surprising, as I was wearing a super snazzy helmet and all (enlightenment, I think it\'s called, 5 too). I can only say, the game lived up to its name. |

| That\'s easy: bear traps are sentient, bloodthirsty savages. They hide this fact until they are sure that their prey cannot escape their fatal bite either through noticing the change or pure speed, then chomp through the neck of those sentients who attempt to release themselves from the somewhat more benign leg-chomp. Until this time, they appear completely inanimate and may indeed be hibernating to save energy until something that is likely to put its neck close to the jaws of the trap in an effort to free itself comes along. | |

| Today I had a character who had a helm of understanding +5, Arcanite Chain Mail +4, Angel Hair Cloak +5, Belt of Levitation +4, dual meteoric steel daggers +4, and 2 angels of loricatus following me. I got to the enner beast, detected his flesh, he\'s halfway across the level. I eventually get to him and try to zap a wand of striking at him, but it happens to be depleted at 2 shots. So I zapped my wand of lightning. Turns out I didn\'t have on my rings of electrical resistance that I had been saving for this exact moment, because the lightning bounced back and killed me. Hit one of my angels too, so I guess I would\'ve been murdered anyways, but it was a good character. | |

| By far my best character ever died because of such an unexpensive and easy-to-get item: Scroll of Detect Material. I had some ridiculously over-enchanted gear, my weapons being two Flaming Adamant Swords +15, and all my armor GEF or Valpurium, enchants varying from +6 to +12. I had a bit less than 400 HP, and about all my stats were over 20. Oh, and he took on Danny in melee and survived victor. After Ivan shamelessly stole my Elpuri kill, I proceeded past the portal. Everything went just fine until I reached the mage level, and was unable to skip it for I couldn\'t detect the damn staircase. I even got to the mages room, but I couldn\'t dispatch them in time. |

I had phoenix feather everything, aside from my cloak which was angel hair, Helm of Brilliance +6, Belt of Levitation, dual adamantine daggers +5, 3 angels of Mellis following me, and an amulet of life saving. I was doing great, slowly getting to the staircase, when I guess one of my angels got turned invisible right before I fired a wand of striking at the frog. D\'oh. She started kicking my ass, until I was teleported away. I drank some healing liquid, found 2 of my other angels, who killed the invisible one, and they suddenly teleported away. Then, in 2 turns, an invisible mistress came up, whipped my groin to death, I came back, then whipped my head off. :{ |

| I have a new story to share, and my longest near-death so far. So i was this berserkerguy, having 12 and 13 strength from the start, steel battleaxe in each hand, and happily slashing my way through the levels, praying to cruentus and cleptia once in a while. So I was fighting this zombie, when my left arm falls off. How could I have missed that i have lepra? Anyway, I killed him with the other axe, and started making my way to town. However, before I get far, my other arm drops to the ground. Knowing I\'m screwed if I can only kick from here to New Attnam, I drink the bottle of trollblood Cruentus gave me. With two new arms, I travel on. And that\'s when I found the hedgehog. In one round of fighting, my left leg lepra\'d and my right was critically bitten of. So I slashed the motherfucker to pieces, and decided to sit and wait till praytime. Guess what? Before long, my arm lets go of my body once more. However, I make it to praytime with one arm left, and Cleptia hastes me while Cruentus blesses me, with a +1 on my battleaxe... Where is the troll blood? Well, only option left is to crawl back. So that\'s what I do. Only there\'s this huge rat at the entrance, and I keep missing him, until my other arm detaches itself. So I start reading the only thing left in my backpack: a scroll of teleportation. Sure enough, I get out of there before the rat kills me. But I am in a room, without limbs, without food, and with 2 hours to go before praying. So, I roll off to find some food. And get stuck in a spiderweb. Falling unconscious every now and then, choking in the web, the two hours pass quickly - though I\'m starving and barely conscious by the time I pray. Hurray! A bottle of troll blood! I drink it, and get a new arm and a leg. Two steps further, another web. I loose my leg. A spider. It bites me, and with my last efforts (and only limb) I smash it against the oposing wall, before the poison finally kills me... |

|
BDR |
Nov 23, 2010, 12:41 am |
| Pssssh. Wands of cloning, mirroring, and polymorph are simple (after a fashion). Step 1: Lay down the items you want to clone, mirror, or polymorph. For cloning and mirroring, you can get up to 5 items cloned/mirrored, and for polymorphing you can get up to 25 items polymorphed if you lay them down in a straight line, 5 per tile, over 5 tiles. Note: If you have more than 5 items in a tile you use one of these wands on, you\'ll only clone/mirror/polymorph the top 5. Code Polymorphing example: @*****. (@ = player, * = batch of 5 items, . = floor) Step 2: Stand next to the batch of items or on either end of the line you created, then zap the wand in the direction of the items/item line. Step 3: Reap the rewards. Note: when picking up from a stack you used a wand of mirroring on, you\'ll see (for example) a second stack of 5 scrolls underneath the first 5 rather than a stack of 10 scrolls - the top stack is the original 5 scrolls, and the bottom stack is made up of the mirrored copies; this is important because the mirrored copies have a limited shelf life and you really don\'t want to use up the wrong scrolls when mirroring things! Also: in the event you wish to clone/mirror yourself, you can lay items down on your square and reap the benefits of hitting them as well as yourself, but you count as one of the 5 items, meaning that you will only wind up with 4 clones/mirrored copies of whatever items are on your square. |
|
Zulox |
Nov 23, 2010, 8:11 pm |
| The best way of mirroring stuff is to zap self while holding two items we want to mirror plus 4 on the ground under char\'s feet and then take copies from mirror image dude. This way it is possible to mirror up to 6 things for each shot instead of 5. | |

| Pretty much you\'re done at that point. All of the acid ends up on (in) your head and chest (mostly your head I think), and your head has so few HP that it\'ll just melt away regardless of your acid resistance. AoLS won\'t help you here either. And it will last quite a while, too. I\'m going to run a quick wizmode test and see if I can survive an acidic cocktail... EDIT: After several tests it seems that even with a +15 cloak and two rings, a 10 end character will still run the risk of dying from consuming the acid. My torso got as far as red. My head took virtually no damage owing to the resistances; I believe less damage is applied to the head per tick from the acid. |

| If you eat Kobold in small portions you won\'t fall asleep. E.G. if you eat a kobold head you\'ll stay awake. | |

| I really don\'t like how you cant rest while panicked. All that means is that you have to press the wait button over and over and possibly accidently die becuase you did. I get not being able to attack, but that is just poor design. |

| Well, I\'ve been away from here for a while, but recently got back into playing IVAN. Had to post this. I had an amazing run through the UT - found 3 scrolls of wishing , an oil lamp, cloak of electricity resistance, mithril helmet, helmet of attractivity +1, armor of great health +1, mithril dagger (though broken), lots of holy books from various gods, and some nice wands.I applied my oil lamp in Attnam, out of which popped a hostile genie. I watched the hilarity as all of Attnam swarmed the genie and beat it to death. Didn\'t get to keep the genie\'s belt and sword, though - I think Ikiros grabbed and equipped them before I could. So I\'m shopping in the library and decide to kick some scrolls out and trick the librarian out of his cash. Little do I notice the passing housewife, who is hit by a flying piece of paper and the whole town freaks out on me. I didn\'t make it out of the library alive. ![]() The worst part is that since I died in Attnam, I\'ll never come across that equipment again... |

| If it was your first post, I\'d type some cliche stuff like \"Welcome to IVAN\", but you deserve a \"Welcome back to IVAN\". I personally think if someone wants to leave town and just holding down the down arrow key and vaguely notices the Y/N prompt and hits \'y\' before he notices that this is a hostile reaction prompt (and is screwed in the process), then it\'s acceptable if he kills the IVAN process and loads an autosave. I wouldn\'t consider that much of a scum. However doing the same after having some book-kicking done wrong isn\'t such a clear matter to me. And dying in Attnam sucks big time, my single best char, a miracle of bones, training and buffing wolves, died there too . Bah, nevermind my char. I suppose all of our best chars did! |

| Yeah, Alveradok, I strictly forbid myself from savescumming. It was a stupid mistake I made, just because I was excited about how well I was doing and wasn\'t watching. | |

| Savescumming is good only for checking things out in real game or strategy making. The only problem is the multiple generation of bone files with the same char, so it should be done on fresh copy of the game. | |

| Or you should check things out in wizmode. Or just man up and risk your valuable character and learn a lesson from it... | |

| Well, I\'m pretty new to IVAN, so it was the first time I ever got through UT (still my only time tbh). I got incredibly lucky I believe: I found a mithril 2handed sword, mithril chainbody, and I think about every god available. I prayed to the one of forbidden lust or something, and I got a torment mistress which absolutely slaughtered everything that came close to me, and after praying to the nature god(des) on UT3 I had an earthquake which removed the big plant to get out (can\'t remember her name). So, I was pretty confident in my survival odds by now, but on the way to the city I suddenly got the message that my left leg had fallen off... a bit later (in fact, right in front of the city) one of my arms fell off. I drank the healing potion I had gotten earlier from praying, and continued my way into the city, where I noticed the torment mistress had disappeared. I thought the potion would have cured the lepra, but no. In the cathedral (after getting a warning about not picking up items there when I tried to take a ruby, which I heeded), my leg suddenly fell off again... When I wanted to pick it up, I got a message asking for confirmation. I didn\'t realise it would treat my boot and left leg as an item of the cathedral too... The moment I picked up my leg I saw everything going towards me, apparently very hostile. I got teleported out of the cathedral, panicked and stressed, and soon I got the high priest and a a few angels after me. I fell unconscious right at their feet, and then got a beating from the high priest (who had some sword with a name with +16), and finally died at the hands of one of the several angels with him... No doubt my most spectacular and painful death yet... |

To make it more dramatic, you were pretty close to a healer in the cathedral, who can cure leprosy Got to get there the next time |

| One suggestion if youre in attnam with leprosy, to avoid losing useful gear, is to unequip everything prior to entering the cathedral. Then, if your leg falls off, your boots dont go with it into the church\'s possession. | |

| Lost a good character today. Dual spears, one ruby, one mithril. 331 HP or so (armor of great health +5... kept expecting to get one-shotted by a named baddy walking around a corner). Guy took a point-blank Enner scream without batting an eyelash, then butchered him in two rounds of melee. Would have been a lot more powerful if I had ever found a SoCM... I mean really, I used 3 AoLS in this game, but didn't find a single cloak of resist until GC5, and never found any SoCM. So I was cruising around the GC. Thought I had perma-telecontrol from an earlier encounter with blink dogs, didn't. Anyways, I waltz into GC6, fully aware that it's the zombie room, and plan on bee-lining to the exit, only deviating for exceptional gear. Survived two veteran kamikaze dwarves with no real damage. Spotted Xinroch... wasn't feeling confidant enough to take him on, so I teleported (this is how I discovered I didn't have control). Got out. It was close but not too bad. I sighed in relief, and went on to explore GC7. After a while, I noticed that my box of wands was gone! Odd. I figured I'd just left it behind on an earlier level for some reason or another. I continued exploring, fought off a lot of nasty golems (two arcanite, a few others) and dark knights and orcs and so forth. Suddenly a bunch of my shit is vanishing! What's going on?! Now I'm teleporting everywhere! Holy crap, where did this dragon hide golem come from! And an orc officer AND a veteran dark knight, all at once! And my glove is gone (followed by my arm a few turns later)! Yeah, it was quick from there. Got tore up fast, died, AoLS triggered, died again immediately. At first I wondered if my high HP had caused my namesake to spawn and visit unholy wrath upon me... but the marked lack of explosions made me think otherwise. Then I realized -- GC7? That's the mystic dark frog level. Fuck me! That should have been a cakewalk, if I'd been thinking right and paying attention to my status! I had sodm, and had left a telecontrol ring on a previous level somewhere. Final score: 39292. |
