Scroll of wishing
I just had my second most promising charecter get oneshotted by a wolf! He was wielding salthull and turox. turox ROCKS! I noticed however that as soon as i equiped it, the game started spaning much more deadly enemies(kamikazee dwarves, lots of golems)

So i get to GC1 with my next char and the first thing i find is a scroll of wishing! so now I dont know what to wish for. I am thinking of:

Belt of levitation
Helm of brilliance
Turox

I have a +2 ommel hair cloak of fire resist, and there is another SoEA in the libray, so i can handle the blasts, but i am concerned if i wish for Turox it is going to start spawning nasty enemies.

any suggestions on what to wish for?

I am sure people suggest this but Amulet of Lifesaving is excellent

One of the keys to playing IVAN is to notice it scales enemies to your equipment in certain ways (not all ways... some equipment is amazing because enemies don't entirely scale towards it)

However you still need good equipment for the Named enemies.

Helm of brilliance is a good wish. Don;t wish for belt of levitation just og fight the sumo. other good wishes:

Wand of cloning or mirroring
scroll of charging (especially if you already have a 3 shot wand of cloning/mirroring)
Your favourite artifact weapon
ring of polymorph control (drink from fountains and get stats boosts & more wishes)
lyre of charm (good for dwarves, sci talking with giant dark frogs or battlemages for good Int boosts)
Scroll of change material (unless you already got one)

If I get a wish fairly late on (i.e. GC2 or later) I tend to use it to find any missing bits of gear first: cloak of fire resistance, belt of carrying, ring of searching, stuff like that. More often than not however I do tend to spend them on wands of cloning/mirroring.

By Valpurus' Hammer!!! A belt of carrying. Now that is a waste of a wish. First of all a belt of levitation kicks ass over a belt of carrying, secondly a golden belt of carrying +3 can be had for the mere price of a certain banana tyrant's head, not too mention mithril boots of kicking+3 and mithril chainmail +1. Also if you pray to Mellis he will usually give you a belt of carrying at some point. Lastly, ring of searching is a wasted wish too: who needs one when you are levitating over all the traps. But to each his own I guess. Sorry if I came across as a smug asshole, I'm really not smug at all (just an asshole).

Well first of all I've never actually managed to beat the Sumo. Second of all, since the ring of searching effectively eliminates the need for the belt of levitation, using a belt of carrying means I can raise my carrying capacity. Aside from that what other ring would I put there? Resistance? Hardly needed. The only resistance you really need is fire, and I more or less ALWAYS get that from a cloak. Typically my second ring is interchangeable between other resistances (if needed) and control rings.

Also, by the time I hit GC2 I usually already have these items. Belts of Carrying are pretty common. Rings of Searching aren't that rare either. Cloaks of fire resistance are usually the only gear item I have to spend a wish on.

levitation allows you to levitate over mines, can't walk over mines with belt of carrying and ring of searching. ring of searching doesn;t always detect all traps - I have stepped on them before while wearing ring of searching. Belt of levitation also allows you to fly over water (go to attnam without killing/teleporting/silvaing Genetrix versana, go back to new attnam to kill decos without going through UT again), fly over acid (frog blood or slime vomit can destroy your boots, you don't get stuck in slime), belt of levitation allows you to set traps and lure baddies over them without worrying about springing them yourself.

As for what to wear instead of ring of searching, I like a ring of invis, or electricity resist, or polycontrol, or telecontrol (if i haven't got permacontrol from blink dogs) or acid resist if fight acidic enemies (frogs, slimes)

Valpurium and Golden Eagle Feather is best for armor. They are quite light, and give amazing armor values. On the other hand, they need a lot of wisdom to be socmed. For weapons the most damage dealing material (unless you have an whip) is adamant, though it's really heavy. Sapphire, Ruby and Diamond are powerful for anything, they don't require wisdom to socm, and they aren't as heavy as adamant. So unless you have a neat wisdom pool I'd go for the gems. Octiron is good for armor, since it's hard and doesn't weigh too much, but it deals relatively small damage as weapon. On the other hand, because it's so light it gives you many attacks.

Int not Wis is required. Check the materials page on the wiki. EVERYTHING has an int requirement to socm or harden to. SOCM int requirements are 5 over those listed in table. Eg. it takes 40 int to harden ruby or sapphire to diamond or 45 int to SoCM something to diamond directly.

I always use Golden Eagle feather for armour, cloaks, gloves, boots and whips, Valpurium for helms, belts, shields, some weapons (turox, scimitar)
Adamant for most other weapons (i think turox has to be +16 to get to unbelievable accuracy if its adamant, anyway its way higher than if its Valpurium). Valpurium body armour gives you 10 more AV than GEF but costs you Agi/Dex, whereas GEF has no penalty (similar for gauntlets/boots). It's a tradeoff. Same with weapons you trade a few damage points for accuracy/block strength/speed with valpurium being more accurate/stronger/faster than adamant but Valpurium does slightly less damage.

Adamant does more damage mainly due to it's hugely high density. I haven't run any tests but I imagine the difference is far less exaggerated on smaller weapons, like daggers and short swords.

No, that means it won't do it. Period. It's like trying to wish for Justifier or Neerc se'Ulb, or some such. Though does it do that for any materials?

For me it seems every time i pick up a scroll of wishing, my characters life seems to cut in half.

If you had a scroll of wishing, could you wish for 3 scrolls of wishing?

No, only one item per time. I'm not sure if you can wish them at all, it'd be kind of pointless anyway...

You can't. Also the only exception to the "one item per wish" rule are boots and gauntlets. If you wish for a "boot of strength" you'll get two.
