If I don't have a belt of levitation or a ring of searching by GC 1, I almost always die by mines. Fire resistance doesn't seem to matter for me, even with one or two equipped, I've died by normal land mines. I have some of the unluckiest characters in the history of IVAN xD

I used to always hold on to healing liquid, I didn't want to "waste" it. I usually died with about 10 bottles of it in my pack

I'm still finding bones files with 7-8 bottles of healing liquid.


Edit: I also found out a good way of avoiding hitting people when kicking scrolls out of the library. Drop a lantern close to the bottom of the screen, it'll keep the area with the scrolls lit so you don't kick it into a commoner.

Maybe there's a "spare" scroll of detect material in the library - buy it and look for iron, Kyle! By GC2, take on Huang Ming Pong and fight for the belt - having more than 13 End OR 20 Dex is just about enough

I wasn't sure if a detect material scroll found active mines, because I searched GC 1 the other day (which almost always has 2-3 active mines for me), but it didn't find any. I got a BoL just a few steps after, so even if my assumption had been right I would've went over them, but it made me think that perhaps the active mines count as being under the ground or something, thus not being detected by the scroll, but from what you're saying, my assumption was wrong. When I didn't understand how gods/praying worked and would desperately pray to every god I knew while I was surrounded by enemies on the verge of death, and would end up getting my limbs teleported or turned to banana peel or something.

This goes along with the healing potion one above. Instead of drinking some, I would pray and make my condition even worse

This is not really a screw up, but it cracked me up anyways.

So I was strolling around in the underwater tunnel with my trustful dog. Suddenly, I SAW A BANANA! I eagerly grabbed the banana to feist on it, even though I've probably haven't eaten anything else in decades, and casualy threw the banana peel behind me.
